Rishi Shukla

 

Rishi Shukla is the clinical coordinator of the Nutrition & Fitness for Life Program, an ambitious clinical and community-centered pediatric weight management program based out of the Department of Pediatrics at Boston Medical Center. In this capacity, he manages the clinical division of this program and also sits on committees such as the Boston Public Health Commission’s Nutrition & Fitness Coalition.

He is the founder of the Kanpur Youth Fitness & Nutrition Program, a strength and aerobic conditioning program coupled with practical nutritional counseling for youth in Kanpur, India. He hopes this initiative will continue to foster improved health and wellness among children and teenagers early on, while simultaneously embedding healthful fitness and nutrition behaviors into the mainstream culture of Indian youth.

Rishi is a former emergency medical technician and continues to be involved in emergency medical services (EMS) as a National Safety Council, American Red Cross, and American Heart Association certified instructor. He has lent his EMS services at such venues as the Boston Marathon, John Hancock Corporate Challenge, Boston University, and Boston University Medical Center.

He earned his BA in neuroscience from Boston University in 2003 and intends to pursue a medical education in the near future. Rishi has presented and published research on instabilities in thermistors, thermally sensitive resistors, and was awarded the U.S. Navy Distinguished Achievement Award for his work on this topic. Additionally, he has done clinical research on gait coordination and gait dynamics in healthy persons and Parkinson’s disease patients using virtual reality induced optic flow manipulations. Rishi served as the president of Boston University’s Alpha Epsilon Delta Pre-Medical Honor Society and was recognized twice as a Student Leader for his contributions to the University. He was also a program coordinator and counselor for Project HEALTH’s Boys Sports and Nutrition Program during his undergraduate years.

Rishi is an avid tennis player and weight trainer, and also enjoys photography, traveling, downtime with friends and family, and classics such as Office Space and The Big Lebowski.
